Viking II: San Diego to Turtle Bay, Baja California, Mexico

We left San Diego on Monday, with a good breeze and headed south. The wind became light and we motored for a day and a half. We arrived Wednesday at about five PM. We were among the first half dozen to reach Turtle Bay (out of about 180 boats). This morning there are only about sixty in the bay.

There was a thunder storm out at sea after we were in port. I am wondering how the others faired. The area is beautiful as usual; the water does not look inviting for a swim.

Enrique, the consummate business man, runs one of two fueling operations. He has a restaurant and a motel ... quite the wheeler dealer. I negotiated $2.45 per gallon diesel and free transport to town. He has Bohemia at the restaurant.
The crew has been great. We did not have any major break downs. We bent the pulpit rail due to high winds with the rigging of the asymmetrical spinnaker. I will look into a repair when I get to LaPaz.

Today we are in town. Hopefully the beer is cold ... There is a halloween party tonight and a pot luck on the beach tomorrow. Saturday we set sail for Bahia Santa Maria; there is nothing there but a fishing village and clear water.

Erik, Viking II
