Viking II: Bahia Santa Maria, Baja California, Mexico

Winds were light running from Turtle Bay to Bahia Santa Maria. The stars are brilliant at night; the weather is warming. We came into the bay late in the day and anchored near the few other boats that had arrived. The next day we launched the dingy and visited friends on other boats. The rest of the crew went to body surf and search for shells while I cut some stainless steel bolts to replace those shaken out of the roller furling; maintenance on a boat never ends.

The party on the beach was nice. There was the usual food; this time it was a fish and shrimp gruel with rice and beans. The live band played all of the cover songs and more beer bottles were emptied than would fit in the trash cans. The bay is gorgeous; if this were in California, there would be condominiums all along the coast. Here, there are four fishing shacks, a community hall and the lessor's cabin cut into the side of the hill overlooking the water.

We hauled anchor after the party hoping to get an evening start with good wind ... no luck. We motored through the night and raised the asymetrical in the morning when the wind came up doing 7 to 8 knots. We arrived at Cabo San Lucas Wednesday afternoon; Georges wife called in the election returns.
