Viking II: Cabo San Lucas to La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico (Sea of Cortez)

Cabo, at the water front, always has more American tourists than locals; we attended the Baha Haha party at Squid Roe. The grand poobah´s wife asked Heather to put her clothes back on and get off of the bar (the Baha Haha is a family event) ... it was an interesting party. As the tequila wore on past midnight, we tried to get back to the Viking II, anchored off shore. No pangas were available and it was a little far to swim in the dark. Finally, around 3 am, one of the gathering group rousted a friend who had gone back to his boat early to sleep; he brought his dingy in and took us home; the following day was pretty quiet as everyone recovered.

The Iron Men of Desert Wind trailered their Newport 30 from Truth or Consequences, NM to San Diego; they launched it on a regular boat ramp with their pickup truck (this is a major feat for a 5 and a half ton boat). They succeeded in sailing the whole Haha from San Diego to Cabo; a borrowed spinnaker and they hit 10 knots on the way (hull speed says the max is 6 and a half!!!). A new legend is born; Rich, Stan and William average 68 years old. We on the other hand motored half the way like everyone else; we know who the wusses are.

Larry and his wife Deb and I left Cabo Sunday giving Desert Wind a half hour head start while we restrung our asmetrical snuffer; we beat them to La Paz since the wind died and we can motor faster than they can.

This internet cafe has beer below 0 degrees ... who says Mexico is backward.

Erik, Viking II
